HORNETS HISTORY
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
It all began In 1962. The buzz ~t around Weston - "There's going to be another Rugby Club in the 10'Nll~.So the Hornets Rugby Club was born, and from modest beginnings a thrilolng club was growing up. Soon the idea became fact. An Inaugural meeting, attended by O\er 30 people, was held alttle london Holel in the May of that year. There, to gr.e amice and help to arrange the fixtures was Mr. Percy l)mery (shown left), for many years secretary ofWeslon RF.C. later, shaNers were put in the sklllies alley of the Go'den lJon but It was some way from the ChangIng accommodatIon to the pitch. The Club has always played al Hulton Moor, and the pilCh was on the former Henleys spol1s ground where un~rtunalely there were no other facIlities; players used to change at WOI1e School and use the Golden lion pub at Worle. A total of 33 plaYHlg members was reglslered. most of them between the ages of 18 and 21, and many of them former members of the Weston club. The filSt Captain oftha 1s1 ~ was Bob Craggs, a front row forward and his \icecaptainwas Mike Thomas, a threequaner. Mr. W.J.Frost, a local builder, was appointed PresIdent, Oa'oid Deane Secretary and Jim Farr, Treasurer. In the Chair and also Fi::.:tute Secretary was Percy Dime.y, who 'M!n1 on to gr.e many yealS of dewted ser.ice to the Club and became allectionately known as "M, Rugby~.
